Collect for Sunday

Stir up, O Lord, the wills of your faithful people, that bringing forth in

abundance the fruit of good works, they may be abundantly rewarded

when our Savior Jesus Christ comes to restore all things; who lives and

reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Daniel 12:1-4a (4b-13)

1 “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of

your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has

been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people

shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the

book. 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall

awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting

contempt. 3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of

the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars

forever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the

book, until the time of the end. (Many shall run to and fro, and

knowledge shall increase.”

5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and behold, two others stood, one on this

bank of the stream and one on that bank of the stream. 6 And someone

said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the

stream, “How long shall it be till the end of these wonders?” 7 And I

heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the

stream; he raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and

swore by him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and

half a time, and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people

comes to an end all these things would be finished. 8 I heard, but I did

not understand. Then I said, “O my lord, what shall be the outcome of

these things?” 9 He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut

up and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many shall purify themselves

and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act

wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are

wise shall understand. 11 And from the time that the regular burnt

offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set

up, there shall be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is he who waits and arrives at

the 1,335 days. 13 But go your way till the end. And you shall rest and

shall stand in your allotted place at the end of the days.”)

Psalm 16

1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

2 I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord;

I have no good apart from you.”

3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,

in whom is all my delight.

4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall

multiply;

their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out

or take their names on my lips.

5 The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup;

you hold my lot.

6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

7 I bless the LORD who gives me counsel;

in the night also my heart instructs me.

8 I have set the LORD always before me;

because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh

also dwells secure.

10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,

or let your holy one see corruption.

11 You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Hebrews 10:31-39

 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you

endured a hard struggle with sufferings, 33 sometimes being publicly

exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with

those so treated. 34 For you had compassion on those in prison, and

you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew

that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. 35

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great

reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have

done the will of God you may receive what is promised. 37 For,

“Yet a little while,

and the coming one will come and will not delay;

38 but my righteous one shall live by faith,

and if he shrinks back,

my soul has no pleasure in him.”

39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of

those who have faith and preserve their souls.

Mark 13:14-23

14 “But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where

he ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in

Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let the one who is on the housetop not

go down, nor enter his house, to take anything out, 16 and let the one

who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 17 And alas for

women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those

days! 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19 For in those days

there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the

creation that God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the

Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But

for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21

And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there

he is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false christs and false prophets will arise

and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23

But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand.
